Rishabh or Rahul, who is the regular wicketkeeper of Team India after Dhoni?
After Dhoni, India have tried five wicketkeepers in a Test match so far but their search for permanent keeper is incomplete. After Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who is the permanent wicketkeeper of the Indian cricket team?Recently, after the absence of Dhoni’s name in the annual contract of the Indian team, this question has started to arise with more noise.Mahendra Singh Dhoni said goodbye to the Test match by playing his last Test on 30 December 2014. After this, India has tried five wicketkeepers in Test matches so far but its search for permanent keeper is incomplete.
Which question is not solved after Dhoni?
KL Rahul has emerged as a strong option, with great batting in recent matches with Australia, with strong batting. But India is yet to get a permanent wicketkeeper for all three formats. After Dhoni left Test cricket, India has tried Riddhiman Saha, Rishabh Pant, Parthiv Patel, Dinesh Karthik and Naman Ojha for this format so far.The most successful among them is Riddhiman Saha. But he has not been able to make a permanent place in One Day and T20.Perhaps one of the reasons for this would have been that Dhoni was wicketkeeping in both these formats.
In the absence of Dhoni, the players that India has tried so far as wicketkeepers in Tests,Among them, Riddhiman’s performance has been the best. Wriddhiman has played 34 Tests as a wicketkeeper and Rishabh 11. When comparing the figures of both batting and wicketkeeping, Rishabh is not far behind Riddhiman in terms of performance even after playing fewer matches.
Can KL Rahul be the permanent wicketkeeper?
Rishabh has got plenty of opportunities in One Day and T20 but due to lack of consistency of performance, he has been outside. There was a concern about Permanent wicketkeeper in Team India due to Pant’s non-performance. But after the injury of regular wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant of the team, KL Rahul got a chance to play as batsman wicketkeeper in ODIs played against Australia in Rajkot. He was then compared to the legendary Rahul Dravid, who played the middle-order batsman and wicketkeeper in more than 70 ODIs.
Rahul scored a blistering 80-ball 52 in this match, which helped India win the big-scoring match by 36 runs. The Karnataka player ended Aaron Finch’s innings with a stunning stumping off Ravindra Jadeja with Jaspreet Bumrah and Navdeep Saini catching the ball. Now the demand started intensifying that after the brilliant wicketkeeping of KL Rahul, he should be made a regular wicketkeeper.
But some former players say that Rahul should not be given double responsibility. Former opener Akash Chopra believes that KL Rahul’s wicketkeeping is better than Rahul Dravid. But this right-handed batsman should not be given double responsibility. He told news agency PTI
Lokesh Rahul is better than Dravid in terms of wicketkeeping but I would not like him to be given this responsibility on a regular basis. It should not be that he wicketkeeping 50 overs and then batting in the top order. If someone is doing well with the bat and he can contribute something else in the team, then it does not mean that he should also do wicketkeeping.
“Lokesh Rahul is very valuable to me as a wicket-keeper batsman,” says Chopra. In this way, instead of better managing the responsibility that is on them, you are increasing their burden. ”
Former Indian wicket-keeper Nayan Mongia also believes that Rahul cannot be a wicket-keeper for long.According to Mongia, KL Rahul can be a brilliant second wicketkeeper in the team. He cannot be a regular wicketkeeper in ODIs. It will run in T20 International but not in ODI. There should be a regular wicketkeeper in the team. He believes that if he does wicketkeeping regularly then his batting will be affected. He is more important to the team as a batsman than a wicketkeeper.
KL. Rahul himself has said that wicketkeeping is a challenge. On some occasions, he could not understand the speed of Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja’s balls. He did not face such bowling with his first class team.
Is Rishabh Pant a stronger contender as wicketkeeper?
Even though looking at KL Rahul’s recent wicketkeeping, sports lovers feel that he can be a regular wicketkeeper of India. But Rishabh Pant’s pan seems to be heavier. Even if he is injured.
But grooming Pant as a regular wicketkeeper may prove more beneficial for India. It would be good if KL Rahul stays in the team as a middle-order batsman. If Pant stays in the team then it will be an added advantage for the Indian team.
After Nayan Mongia’s departure from Team India and Mahendra Dhoni being settled as regular wicketkeepers in the team, India had tried many wicketkeepers. That is, MSK Prasad, Saba Karim, Vijay Dahiya, Sameer Dighe, Deep Dasgupta, Ajay Ratra, Rahul Dravid, Parthiv Patel and Dinesh Karthik had been tried within 16 months. There are similar situations even now. The question remains that after Dhoni, who is the permanent wicketkeeper of Team India?
